Printing with Flexible TPU Filament
TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) produces rubber-like parts. Here's how to master it.
TPU Properties
- Shore Hardness: Typically 85A-98A
- Elongation: Can stretch 300-600% before breaking
- Abrasion Resistance: Outstanding
Printing Settings
- Nozzle: 210-240°C | Bed: 40-60°C
- Speed: 15-30mm/s (slow is key!)
- Retraction: Disable or reduce to minimum
- Direct Drive: Strongly recommended over Bowden
Design Tips
- Avoid sharp corners — use fillets and chamfers
- Design with variable wall thickness for controlled flexibility
- Increase flow by 5-10% to prevent under-extrusion
Common Applications
Phone cases, gaskets, vibration dampeners, footwear insoles, RC car tires, flexible hinges, and custom grips.
