The Complete Guide to 3D Print Bed Adhesion

Why Bed Adhesion Matters

Poor bed adhesion is the #1 cause of failed 3D prints. Here's everything you need to know.

Build Plate Materials

  • PEI Sheet: The gold standard. Our ANTINSKY Cold PEI Build Plate offers excellent adhesion when heated and self-releases when cool.
  • Glass: Smooth mirror finish. Needs glue stick or hairspray for adhesion.
  • Spring Steel + PEI: Flexible platform, easy part removal.

Troubleshooting Guide

  • Won't stick: Nozzle too far → lower Z-offset by 0.05mm
  • Elephant foot: Nozzle too close → raise Z-offset
  • Warping: Draft or low bed temp → use enclosure
  • Stringy first layer: Nozzle too cold → increase 5-10°C

Adhesives by Material

  • PLA: PEI sheet (no adhesive needed) or glue stick on glass
  • PETG: PEI + release agent (glue stick)
  • ABS: ABS slurry on glass or PEI at 100-110°C
  • TPU: Blue painter's tape or PEI
