Nozzles and Hotends: Choosing, Maintaining and Upgrading

The nozzle is the smallest and most overlooked part of a 3D printer, but it has an outsized effect on print quality. A worn or clogged nozzle produces rough surfaces, inconsistent extrusion, and failed prints. Knowing when and how to swap it saves hours of frustration.

Nozzle Materials Compared

Brass nozzles are cheap and conduct heat well, but they wear quickly with abrasive filaments like carbon-fiber or glow-in-the-dark PLA. Hardened steel lasts far longer but conducts heat slightly worse. Tungsten offers the best of both worlds, excellent wear resistance with good thermal conductivity, though at a higher price.

High-Flow Nozzles for Speed

If you are printing fast, a high-flow nozzle can keep up with the demand.
