1. Build Plates: PEI vs. Cold PEI vs. Textured

The build plate surface determines first-layer adhesion, release characteristics, and overall print success rate. Here is how the main options compare:

2. Nozzles: Material Compatibility and Wear

Stock brass nozzles are fine for standard PLA and PETG, but wear quickly with abrasive filaments (glow-in-the-dark, CF-filled, glass-filled). Upgrade options:

  • Brass (stock): Good thermal conductivity, wears fast with abrasives. Replace every 3-6 months of regular use.
  • Stainless steel: Moderate wear resistance, slightly lower thermal conductivity. Food-safe option.
  • Hardened steel: Excellent wear resistance. The best all-rounder for CF, glow, and glass-filled filaments.
  • Tungsten carbide: Extreme durability, excellent thermal properties. Premium option for heavy production use.
