Creality K1C and Ender 3 V3: Speed Kings or Compromise Machines?

Creality spent years as the budget king of 3D printing — reliable, affordable, but slow. The Ender 3 series became the most-printed-on printer in the world precisely because it was cheap enough for everyone, not because it was fast. But in 2026, Creality has two machines that claim to break that mold: the K1C and the Ender 3 V3. Both promise speeds over 600 mm/s. Both cost under $300. Are they genuine competitors to Bambu Lab's speed-focused lineup, or are they compromises that cut too many corners?

K1C: The Closed-Frame Contender

The K1C is Creality's answer to Bambu Lab's P1S — a closed-frame, CoreXY machine with a claimed 600 mm/s max speed and 800 mm/s travel. It comes with a CR Touch auto bed leveling probe, a 300°C hotend capable of printing ABS, ASA, and carbon fiber-filled filaments, and a built-in Klipper-based firmware that eliminates the sluggish Marlin experience of older Creality machines.

In practice, the K1C delivers real speed for simple geometries — straight walls, flat surfaces, basic infill. A 20 mm calibration cube prints in under six minutes at reasonable quality. But complex geometry with lots of retractions and direction changes exposes the limitation: the motion system isn't as refined as Bambu Lab's. You hear ringing on corners, and print quality at 600 mm/s drops noticeably compared to 300 mm/s. The sweet spot is 300-400 mm/s for good results, which is still fast but not the headline number.

Ender 3 V3: Open Frame, Low Price

The Ender 3 V3 takes a different approach. It keeps the open-frame design and Cartesian motion system of the original Ender 3 lineage but adds a direct drive extruder, CR Touch, and Klipper firmware. The claimed 500 mm/s speed is more realistic than the K1C's numbers, and the V3 actually delivers decent prints at 300 mm/s consistently.

Where the V3 falls short is material flexibility. Without an enclosure, ABS and ASA printing requires a DIY enclosure solution. PETG works fine, and PLA and PLA+ print beautifully on it. For most users who stick to PLA and PETG, the V3 is genuinely a good machine at a genuine low price.

The Real Competition

Neither the K1C nor the V3 matches Bambu Lab's ecosystem integration. Bambu Studio, AMS compatibility, cloud monitoring, and the overall polish of the Bambu experience remain the benchmark. But Bambu Lab's cheapest closed-frame printer (the P1S) costs about $100 more than the K1C, and the A1 mini costs more than the V3. If budget is your primary constraint, Creality's 2026 lineup offers real value.

Who Should Buy Each

  • K1C — You want a closed-frame machine for ABS/ASA printing, you don't need AMS, and you want Klipper speed without building it yourself. It's the best sub-$300 enclosed option available right now.
  • Ender 3 V3 — You mostly print PLA and PETG, you want a reliable fast printer under $200, and you're comfortable with an open frame. The V3 is the direct successor to the Ender 3 legacy — better in every way, still affordable.
  • Bambu Lab A1 or P1S — You want the full ecosystem experience, multi-material printing, and the most polished software. The extra cost buys convenience, not just hardware.
