ANTINSKY Dual Colors Silk PLA: Two-Tone Prints Without a Multi-Material System

Multi-color 3D printing usually means one of two things: an expensive AMS/MMU system, or painstaking manual filament swaps at specific layer heights. ANTINSKY Dual Colors Silk PLA offers a third option — and it is refreshingly simple.

How Co-Extruded Dual-Color Filament Works

By Inno Uncle

Instead of switching between filament spools mid-print, dual-color filaments are co-extruded: two colors run side by side through a single strand of 1.75mm filament. As the filament feeds through the extruder and exits the nozzle, the two colors create a split-toned effect that shifts depending on the viewing angle and the geometry of your print. Curved surfaces produce the most dramatic effect, with the two colors blending and separating as the light hits different faces.

No special hardware. No purge towers. No wasted filament. Just load the spool and print.

What Makes ANTINSKY's Version Stand Out

Not all dual-color filaments are created equal. The biggest failure mode with budget co-extruded filament is color bleed — where the boundary between the two colors becomes muddy and indistinct. ANTINSKY's Dual Colors Silk PLA uses tight-tolerance co-extrusion to maintain a clean color boundary, resulting in distinct two-tone effects that pop under light.

The silk finish adds another dimension. The subtle sheen amplifies the color-shift effect, making models appear more premium than standard PLA prints. Popular color combinations — like blue-purple, gold-green, and red-blue — create an almost iridescent quality on organic shapes like vases, sculptures, and decorative pieces.

Printing Tips

  • Temperature: Print at 200-220°C. The silk additives can increase nozzle pressure slightly, so stay toward the upper end of the range.
  • Speed: Slow down to 40-60 mm/s for best surface finish. Silk PLA does not like being rushed — the sheen diminishes at high speeds.
  • Best models: Curved, organic shapes show the dual-color effect best. Geometric, flat-sided models will mostly show one color per face.
  • Bed adhesion: Standard PEI sheet at 50-60°C works perfectly. No glue or tape needed.
