Slicer Settings That Matter: Layer Height, Walls, Infill and Print Speed

Most FDM print failures and quality complaints can be traced back to a handful of slicer settings. You do not need to understand every tab in your slicer — you need to understand the four knobs that matter most: layer height, wall count, infill and print speed. Get these right and your ANTINSKY PLA+ Filament 1.75mm (and PETG, ABS and TPU) will behave.

Layer Height: Resolution vs. Time

Layer height is the vertical thickness of each layer, typically 0.1-0.3 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle.

  • 0.12-0.16 mm — smooth surface, sharper details, slower.
  • 0.20 mm — the everyday sweet spot for speed and quality.
  • 0.28 mm — functional, fast prints where surface finish is secondary.

Walls (Perimeter Count)

Wall count strongly influences strength — often more than infill does. Two to four walls produce robust parts; objects that will take knocks benefit from 4+ walls. The right wall thickness also hides infill showing through the surface.

Infill: Percentage and Pattern

Lightweight, low-infill parts print faster and use far less plastic — a big saving when spool prices matter.

Print Speed and Cooling

Slower speeds give cleaner overhangs and fewer ringing artefacts, while newer CoreXY machines handle high speed with flow calibration. Keep PLA around 40-80 mm/s for quality, and make sure part cooling is on — PLA needs cooling to fuse bridges and overhangs.
