The Verdict
Choose K1 Max if: You need maximum build volume, prefer open-source firmware for tinkering, or already have Creality ecosystem accessories. The 300mm cube is genuinely useful for large functional prints.
Choose P1S if: You want multi-color printing (AMS is the killer feature), value plug-and-play reliability, or print mostly within 256mm. The closed ecosystem is a feature, not a bug — updates are automatic, profiles are optimized, and the experience is seamless.
