Filament is hygroscopic. Leave a spool out in a humid room and it slowly absorbs moisture from the air. The result is more than just cosmetic: wet filament causes stringing, popping, rough surfaces, and weak layer adhesion. If your prints suddenly look worse with the same settings, moisture is often the culprit.
