Post-Processing Made Simple: The Washing, Drying and Curing Workflow for Clean Resin Prints

A great resin print can be ruined in the seconds after it comes off the build plate if you skip proper post-processing. Prints that feel sticky, look dull, or crack weeks later are almost always the result of rushed washing or curing. This guide walks through the complete workflow so your clean, cured, finished parts look as good as they do in the slicer.

Why Post-Processing Matters

Fresh from the vat, resin parts carry a thin layer of uncured liquid resin on the surface. That residue causes tackiness, yellowing, weak surfaces, and poor paint adhesion. The goal is to remove loose resin, then cure the part to full strength under UV light.

The Three-Stage Workflow

Stage Tool Duration Why it matters
Rinse ~99% IPA bath 2–4 minutes Removes surface resin
Dry Air or fan 10–30 minutes Prevents cloudy residue
Cure UV curing station Varies by resin Reaches full strength

Step 1 — Washing

Use isopropyl alcohol (around 99%) in an airtight container. Submerge the support-removed part and gently agitate for a few minutes. Avoid soaking too long, especially for detailed or thin parts, which can soften. For hollow models, make sure the liquid drains out of every drainage hole so trapped resin does not leak later.

Step 2 — Drying

Before curing, allow the part to fully dry. Any IPA left on the surface can react under UV and leave a white film. A warm fan or just time on a paper towel works well; you should see a matte, non-shiny surface before moving on.

Step 3 — Curing

Place the dried part in a UV curing station and rotate it so all sides receive light. Curing time depends on resin type and light intensity — start with the manufacturer’s recommended time and add short intervals. Parts that cure partially will feel strong but deform later; fully cure to spec for lasting results.

Troubleshooting Common Finish Issues

  • Sticky surface — increase wash time or use fresh IPA.
  • White residue — dry fully before curing.
  • Brittle or cracked parts — you overcured or washed too long; shorten both.
  • Dull, rough finish — cure in short rotations for even light exposure.

Choose a Reliable Resin

The workflow is only as good as the resin you start with. For crisp details and predictable curing, try ANTINSKY Standard Lite Resin 1kg for fast, low-odour prints, or ANTINSKY Standard Resin 1kg for general miniatures and models. Both are formulated to cure cleanly with minimal yellowing.
