Your nozzle is where every filament's journey ends — and where many quality problems begin. Choosing the right nozzle material for the filament you print is one of the cheapest upgrades you can make. This guide explains the options and when each one earns its place.
The Three Main Nozzle Materials
| Material | Best For | Trade-Off |
|---|---|---|
| Brass | PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU | Cheap and great conductors; wears with abrasive filaments |
| Hardened Steel | Glow, carbon-fibre, metal-filled | Wear-resistant; lower thermal conductivity |
| Tungsten | Fast printing + abrasives | Best heat & wear balance; premium price |
When Abrasive Filament Wears Brass Fast
Any filament containing particles — glow-in-the-dark, carbon fibre, wood, metal fill — erodes a brass nozzle. The orifice expands over time, causing thicker lines and oozing. If you print these materials regularly, switch to hardened steel or tungsten.
Tungsten Isn't Just About Wear
Tungsten delivers high thermal conductivity and hardness, so it holds temperature better during high-flow printing. That makes it ideal for very fast volumetric printing with tough filaments, where brass would sag or wear.
When High-Flow Nozzles Help
- High-flow / large-bore nozzles move more material per second.
- Great for big, low-detail parts where speed beats resolution.
- Combine with a compatible hotend for stable melt and even extrusion.
Is Bigger Always Better?
No. A 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm nozzle prints faster but loses fine detail. Match the nozzle to the part: fine and detailed → standard 0.4 mm; structural and fast → high-flow.
Keep Your Nozzle Healthy
- Cold-pull / cleaning filament regularly to remove carbonised residue.
- Check the tip after abrasive runs for wear or clogging.
- Torque to spec when hot to avoid leaks and heat creep.
Accessories Worth Having in Store
For reliable extrusion and cleaner prints, a good nozzle is only part of the system. A fresh build plate and proper drying keep everything consistent:
- ANTINSKY High-Flow Nozzle for Bambu Lab H2 — faster volumetric printing.
- ANTINSKY Tungsten Nozzle for Bambu Lab P1 — abrasion and heat resistance.
- ANTINSKY Cold PEI Build Plate — great first-layer adhesion.
- ANTINSKY FilaBox Drying Box — keep filament dry for clean extrusion.
Match your nozzle to your most-used filament, and it will reward you with cleaner lines and a much longer service life.
