One of the most critical parameters in resin 3D printing is exposure time. Get it right, and your prints come out crisp and accurate. Get it wrong, and you face delamination, overexposed details, or failed prints. This guide covers everything you need to know about exposure time for LCD/MSLA printing with ANTINSKY Standard Lite Resin and other photopolymer materials.

What Is Exposure Time?

Exposure time is the duration (in seconds) each UV-LED layer cures liquid resin into a solid layer. There are two parameters: Bottom Exposure (20–40 seconds at 0.05 mm) for strong bed adhesion, and Normal Exposure (1.5–4.0 seconds) for the rest.

Factors That Affect Exposure

  • Resin Type: Clear resins cure faster; opaque ones need 20–50% longer. Standard Lite (Clear) exposes at ~2.2 s, Gray needs ~2.8 s.
  • Layer Height: 0.025 mm → ~1.5 s; 0.1 mm → ~4.0 s. Roughly linear relationship.
  • Temperature: Below 20°C needs 10–30% longer exposure. Optimal: 25–30°C.
  • Printer Model: Different UV arrays produce different power. Always run a calibration test when switching printers.

Calibration Steps

  1. Download the Ameralabs Town or XP2 Validation Matrix model.
  2. Start with the manufacturer's recommended exposure.
  3. Print tests at ±0.5-second intervals around the baseline.
  4. Inspect: underexposed → pins missing; overexposed → bloated details; just right → crisp edges.
  5. Adjust bottom exposure so the raft adheres firmly but is removable.

Troubleshooting

  • Sticking to FEP: Increase bottom exposure by 5 s or reduce lift speed to 40 mm/min.
  • Bloated details: Reduce normal exposure by 0.3–0.5 s.
  • Layer separation: Increase normal exposure by 0.3 s and check resin temperature.
  • Detail loss: Switch to ANTINSKY Detail Master Resin.

Safety

Wear nitrile gloves and work in a ventilated area. Store resin between 15–25°C, shake the bottle before use.
