How Cartesian Printers Work

In a Cartesian printer, the print head moves along the X and Y axes while the bed moves up and down along the Z axis. This is the layout used by most entry-level printers like the Creality Ender series and the Prusa MK4. It is mechanically simple, easy to maintain, and well understood by the community. The downside is that the bed must move with the print on it, which limits speed and acceleration for tall or heavy parts.
How CoreXY Printers Work
CoreXY uses two stationary motors and a system of belts to move the print head in both X and Y. The bed only moves in Z. This keeps the moving mass low, which allows faster acceleration and higher print speeds without ringing. CoreXY printers often have a more compact footprint for a given build volume, but they are more complex to assemble and maintain. Belt tension must be balanced, and the frame needs to be rigid.
